WHAT IS HEMP?
Hemp (or industrial hemp) is a type of plant from the cannabis family that is used in thousands of home goods, healthcare and industrial products.
IS INDUSTRIAL HEMP ILLEGAL?
Nope! In 2014, the Federal Government declared industrial hemp legal. Still, the cultivation of industrial hemp is only legal in certain states (read more about that here).
The question of industrial hemp’s legality is the result of a common misconception. Hemp is a member of the cannabis plant family, so it’s frequently associated with marijuana. However, the primary difference is the level of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) contained in each plant (THC is the drug that causes psychoactive effects). Marijuana has much greater levels of THC.
By federal law, industrial hemp must contain less than 0.3% of THC to be considered legal. If the level of THC exceeds 0.3%, the product is considered psychoactive and illegal.

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT PRODUCTS MADE FROM INDUSTRIAL HEMP?
With more than 50,000 different uses, industrial hemp is one of the most versatile resources in the world. Its seeds and the oils derived from them contain all nine essential amino acids and other important fatty acids, vitamins A, B, C and D and have large amounts of easily-digestible protein, which is why industrial hemp’s applications in topical products (lotions, makeups, soaps and other beauty products) and food and beverages are being increasingly recognized and embraced.
Industrial hemp is fully sustainable, meaning that not a single part of it goes to waste. Fibers from the stalk can be used for textiles, cotton-based products, rope and canvas. Pieces of the stem and stalk (called hurds) can be cleanly converted into gasoline, ethanol and methanol – in fact, a single acre of hemp can produce 1,000 gallons of methanol. And the combination of hemp hurds with hemp fibers produces a material that can replace insulation, acrylics, paper, building materials and nearly all molded plastics and fiberglass products. Virtually anything that is made from timber, petroleum or cotton can also be produced using hemp instead.

IS CBD ILLEGAL?

WHAT ARE TERPENES AND DO THEY HAVE ANY BENEFITS?
Terpenes occur naturally in almost every plant, including hemp plants. If you use cannabis, then you can usually access the benefits of terpenes as well. What about if you use CBD products? Full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD products may still have terpenes. The refinement process for making CBD isolate, though, destroys terpenes.
