Frequently asked questions

YOU’VE GOT SOME QUESTIONS

WE’VE POSSIBLY GOT SOME ANSWERS. WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND?

WHAT IS HEMP?

Hemp (or industrial hemp) is a type of plant from the cannabis family that is used in thousands of home goods, healthcare and industrial products.

IS INDUSTRIAL HEMP ILLEGAL?

Nope! In 2014, the Federal Government declared industrial hemp legal. Still, the cultivation of industrial hemp is only legal in certain states (read more about that here).
The question of industrial hemp’s legality is the result of a common misconception. Hemp is a member of the cannabis plant family, so it’s frequently associated with marijuana. However, the primary difference is the level of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) contained in each plant (THC is the drug that causes psychoactive effects). Marijuana has much greater levels of THC.
By federal law, industrial hemp must contain less than 0.3% of THC to be considered legal. If the level of THC exceeds 0.3%, the product is considered psychoactive and illegal.

CAN I RETURN MY ORDER?

All orders are final unless the product is damaged or expired. All claims for damaged or expired product must be made with 48 hours. Please contact us and provide detailed information for any product damaged or expired during shipping within that time. Please include a full description of the damages to the product or the expired products.

SO I WON’T EXPERIENCE PSYCHOACTIVE EFFECTS IF I USE A PRODUCT MADE WITH INDUSTRIAL HEMP?

It’s scientifically impossible.

HOW DO I KNOW IF A PRODUCT I PURCHASED WAS MADE FROM HEMP WITH MORE THAN 0.3% OF THC?

Not all hemp is created equal and as a consumer, it’s technically your responsibility to research the products you purchase and use. However,
The Georgia Hemp Company has done this research for you. We’ve carefully vetted our partners and guarantee that every product we sell, as well as every product that we produce, has been sourced only from states that are legally approved to farm industrial hemp.

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT PRODUCTS MADE FROM INDUSTRIAL HEMP?

With more than 50,000 different uses, industrial hemp is one of the most versatile resources in the world. Its seeds and the oils derived from them contain all nine essential amino acids and other important fatty acids, vitamins A, B, C and D and have large amounts of easily-digestible protein, which is why industrial hemp’s applications in topical products (lotions, makeups, soaps and other beauty products) and food and beverages are being increasingly recognized and embraced.

Industrial hemp is fully sustainable, meaning that not a single part of it goes to waste. Fibers from the stalk can be used for textiles, cotton-based products, rope and canvas. Pieces of the stem and stalk (called hurds) can be cleanly converted into gasoline, ethanol and methanol – in fact, a single acre of hemp can produce 1,000 gallons of methanol. And the combination of hemp hurds with hemp fibers produces a material that can replace insulation, acrylics, paper, building materials and nearly all molded plastics and fiberglass products. Virtually anything that is made from timber, petroleum or cotton can also be produced using hemp instead.

An industrial hemp plant takes only about four months to mature and the cultivation process requires no chemicals, pesticides or herbicides, which means it’s also better for our environment!

WHAT IS CBD?

CBD (short for Cannabidiol) is one of the most popular compounds found in hemp and is unique in that it displays a broad range of potential therapeutic applications, making it an especially attractive agent in a variety of wellness products.

CBD is typically available in two forms: “Full spectrum CBD” extract will include all of the cannabinoids from the plant, while “CBD isolate” will be a more concentrated form of CBD with higher purity.

WHAT DOES CBD DO?

It’s important to understand that the FDA has yet to designate CBD as a health product. Any company that makes specific claims about the health benefits or capabilities of its CBD products is posing an unnecessary risk to its customers and its own business. That’s not a disclaimer, that’s a fact.

The Georgia Hemp Company is a fierce advocate for the greater public awareness and education of the potential benefits of CBD and we encourage everyone to take advantage of the wealth of research that is available online. Numerous studies in which CBD has been shown to have various health benefits are readily available and informative articles can be found on our blog.

If you have a specific question about a product, check out the descriptions for each one and feel free to contact us through the “Got a Question?” button at the top of the page. And as with any supplement, please consult with your physician or care provider.

IS CBD ILLEGAL?

CBD extracted from industrial hemp (meaning the plant contains less than 0.3% of THC) is not illegal. However, as we mentioned above, hemp can have illegal levels of THC (greater than 0.3%). In addition, CBD extracted from the marijuana plant will likely contain high levels of THC, making it illegal.

The best way to avoid this issue is to shop from an approved provider (such as The Georgia Hemp Company and its partners) that can guarantee that its products have been sourced from legal, industrial hemp.

WHY SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE HEMP AND CBD PRODUCTS I PURCHASE AND USE?

It’s our belief that a consumer that pays for any product or service should get what they pay for without worrying about quality. That’s a fundamental component for any successful company. Beyond compromising business integrity, mislabeled products or products with improper measurements – accidental or otherwise – pose a couple of risks to customers:

Legal: depending on your state, if you’re caught using an illegal substance (regardless of whether you were aware), you can be charged. Of course, the company that sold you the product could be held liable, but its best to simply avoid the situation entirely.

Physical: different amounts and concentrations of chemicals will affect everyone differently. If you use a product that doesn’t accurately indicate the proper dosage, then your understanding of the product’s potential effects will be skewed. This will make it difficult to gauge dosages of other products you may try in the future.

It’s important to remember that there’s currently no legal requirement for companies to accurately label their hemp and CBD products and until there is, consumers should carefully vet the companies from which they purchase their products.

WHAT ARE TERPENES AND DO THEY HAVE ANY BENEFITS?

Terpenes occur naturally in almost every plant, including hemp plants. If you use cannabis, then you can usually access the benefits of terpenes as well. What about if you use CBD products? Full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD products may still have terpenes. The refinement process for making CBD isolate, though, destroys terpenes.

Some companies have recognized how important terpenes are. They’re now putting terpenes back into the products they make with CBD isolate. Adding terpenes to an ultra-pure CBD product also allows for granular control over the profile. It allows for custom blends of terpenes that deliver the right effects and better flavors.
