This October, Georgia’s hemp industry underwent a transformative shift with new regulations designed to legitimize and regulate hemp products across the state. These changes, stemming from Senate Bill 494, have sparked both opportunities and challenges for businesses and consumers alike. New Rules, New Challenges
As of October 1, Georgia hemp businesses must comply with strict regulations, including:
- A ban on prerolled smokable hemp flower and certain edible formats, such as baked goods.
- Sales are restricted to individuals aged 21 and older.
- Mandatory testing of all hemp products.
While these rules aim to enhance consumer safety and establish clear industry standards, they’ve also significantly limited product options. Salome expressed concern over the constraints, comparing the restrictions to having “a bunch of different types of milk but only being able to sell one.”
“We want to see this industry normalized,” Salome stated. “But overregulating limits choices for businesses and consumers, which doesn’t spur growth.”

Despite these restrictions, the hemp beverage category is emerging as a shining star in the industry.
